Media Language Analysis

LO: To analyse media text using media language

This shot is a medium long shot to show his gun and if they were to choose any other they would either be to clear and would leave things out or not very clear and would miss out clear details.

The gun connotes gun, violence and death so because of this the movie is an action film.

Background is gold so it's a colour that suggests wealth so maybe he's rich. Even though his clothes look quite casual but they are actually very expensive.

He looks serious so this suggests that he's not playing about.

3 diegetic sounds in the trailer were the screeching of the tires when bond was driving. Another was the engine of bonds car and the last one gunshots. It adds more entertainment towards the watcher and more action some people will go and watch.

In the trailer they used fade to black when they change the time in the trailer. The cuts at the end kept getting quicker because it got more intense.

LO: To analyse a media text using media language.

The tenet trailer includes tense music to create tension from the person watching it and makes them wanna watch it more to find out. It creates suspense and gets louder and louder then quicker and every time something gets worse until it comes to a complete stop.

Camerawork

mid shot, close up, medium close up wide shot, medium, long shot

Editing

quick cuts during tense scenes and fades in certain areas.

Soundtrack

Moderate tempo and gets louder on cuts. Quite tense music.

In the Dune trailer editing is used effectively to make the reader wanna watch it more. It does quick cuts during tense scenes and fades certain times. For example, in the scene where he meets Zendaya the director makes the cuts quicker and music more intense. This creates the impression that the boy and Zendaya stay with each other for the rest of the film and makes the audience think that they will become friends or enemies. In the dune trailer different shot types are used to different effect. For example in one scene they used wide shot to show how small they are in such a big surrounding. This close up emphasises everything around. it shows us what they are seeing aswell.

Camerawork

In the top gun maverick trailer they use a wide range of shot but the most common was the long shot. They use this to show there surrounding when either flying the plane or driving his motorbike like it shows in the photo. They used this photo to show how cool it looks when he's driving the same speed as a plane.

They used many photos like this during the trailer which is the close up. They use this to show there facial expressions and showing how hard it is to fly it.

                                                                                                       Mise-en-scene

The mise-en-scene in this photo is there use of uniform. The uniform improvises that they are ready to get in the planes and battle which creates excitement for the watchers because they just wanna see them get in the plane, and action because that is when it starts to get really good.

Editing

In the editing they used fades to fade into each other with a black screen but when it gets more intense [when there in the plane] it goes into quick cuts and louder sounds. They used a lot of CGI when in the planes but it looked very good.

Soundtrack

For the soundtrack they used quite low sounded music but fast and the voices over the top of the music. Every time that someone speaks the music fades a lot so its almost un-hearable.

Theoretical Framework

Media Language

All the different elements used to construct any media product.

Camerawork- shot type, angle & movement

Establish-shot is when u often see at the start of a scene.

Wide shots-shows a the subject and the location &  shows the wideness around them.

Mid shot- where the shot is just above the waist to show the upper half of someone. While showing emotions from the face & body language.

MCU-is head to chest & close up to the body and reduces distraction & focusing on character.

Close up-effective & brings empathy to show there emotions & expressions.

ECU-very close up to ears, lips & noses but eyes are the main focus.

Soundtrack- what is included?

Natural life.

Diegetic and non-diegetic sound

Diegetic sounds are when sounds that originate from within the video or sound.

Non-diegetic sounds is when a sound cannot be heard by the actor but whomever is reading it can.

Mise-en-scene means the arrangement of the scenery, props, setting, lighting, hair and make up, actor positioning, costume and body language and facial expression.

The mise-en-scene for stranger things season 1 bring a scary vibe because it is all at night time. Another one is that there is a character in big who looks like she's using a special ability so it may infer that she has superpowers or something along the lines of that. There is a man in a a toxicated suit so maybe a disease broke out. There clothes and bikes connotes that the time is set in a different time.

The mise-en-scene about the photo on the board is that it looks like its been set around the time of halloween so this connotes that it may be scary, mostly because of the darkness and orangeness around where he is. The ferris wheel in the background shows that he's in an amusement park/theme park. He has a cigarette in his mouth so this connotes that he doesn't have very good life choices. The bag connotes that he's going or gone to a place already, and he looks a bit tired so it connotes he's come back.

Editing- transition, pace & special effects.

Includes transitions, pace & speed of cuts, CGI, green screening and graphics. Straight cut, jump cut is when u just jump, cross cutting is used to build suspense, cutaway is when a cut to inform a viewer where u are, montage is when loads of photos or clips are put together to show something over a course of time that u have been working on, match cut is when it follows in to the next frames on the film.
