Regulation:

• The music industry is not regulated by a single organisation, but there are regularly guidelines in place for music production in Britain
• The BPI runs the parental advisory scheme however this is voluntary and uses the logo to notify audiences about content that might not be suitable for children

Stormzy values and believes in god as seen in his post where he states he wants to thank god showing his appreciation for god and his belief in him. He stands for young black males and females lives and attempts to keep them away from danger and gangs by talking to them in meets, online and though his music like his song superheroes. Taylor swift stands for her fans and women, she casts her vote towards Kamala harris as she feels she's the better choice and also how she would be the first woman president implying that she stands for women. She values her fans interacting with them all over social media, posting about them and even commenting on their posts to interact with her fanbase.

TLC: Waterfalls

LO: To explore the historical case study.

• Unlike other girl groups, TLC had more of a rock n roll image, they were honest about their individuals battles with addiction and police arrests 

Meaning:

• First scene is a mother/son relationship, son resorts to unorthodox ways of making money
• Second scene is a man chasing a different waterfall, chasing his sexual desire then getting aids 

Media language:

• Performance, narrative and conceptual all blended
• Two clear narratives with characters and situations that directly relates the the lyrics
• Conceptual, the liquid effects over the girls at the beginning, at the waterfall and at the start
• 3 letters took him to his final resting (HIV)
• Intertextual reference, terminator 2, similar cgi effects to terminator 2 when they came out of the fire and they came out of water so still different
• Montage of flying imagery going over urban areas
• Special effects used to portray the ghostly characters of the mother and son and to show the symptoms of the mans disease
• Diegetic sound used between verse and chorus to show things happening relating to the lyrics before hand

Mis en scene:

• First narrative scene: typical inner city location have connotations of ghetto culture and the costumes connote a dangerous urban environment. Intertextual links to 90's films like New Jack City and Boy'z in the hood.

No performance, so it's unlike other pop videos where they usually lip sync and perform to the camera.

How does it challenge conventions of a typical music video?

• animated
• no performance aspect

• different compared to his usual music videos

Media language:

• mis en scene: opening shots show the buildings showing the location is in a city. The sky is pink which shows happiness within the city and birds chirping implying happiness. 
• Propps character roles: Stormzy fills the role of the hero as he rescues the boy and helps young black people. He is also the role of the donor, helper and dispatcher as he helps the kids on their journey to improve and become better.

Intertextuality:

• Noughts and crosses the book is in his music video and it talks about racial equality. His favourite book. Stormzy is in the noughts and crosses trailer, could be classed as synergy.
• Toy story, he is built like Buzz Lightyear and has similar movement to his flying aspect

Iconography:

• Represents the pandemic as they are all wearing face masks
• Also represents the black lives matter movement following the death of George Floyd
• All the iconography in the music video is associated with black empowerment

Marcus Rash ford is used in the music video on the back of a girls shirt as in 2020 and later years after that he went against the government and gave out free school meals to any children across the UK. Stormzy did this to represent him as a hero to young children in the Uk who aren't as fortunate as others.

Stormzy starts to glow showing his power and significance. 

The camera shot at the starts where Stormzy is above the boy and he is looking up at him showing his importance and a role model to the younger people in the UK. 

Representation:

• Women subverts stereotypes as a girl wears a football shirt which is stereotypically a mens sport.
• Stormzy is represented as a hero for the young black community. Shows the Noughts and crosses book to the police showing he stands up for the black community and racial equality.
